Cold brew isn’t something new at this point but it’s always ‘trending’, and for good reason. Because this type of coffee is brewed in cold temperatures, much of the bitter-tasting oils are extracted from the beans.

The result is a cup of coffee that tastes less bitter, less acidic and more full-bodied. So, if you always wanted to switch to plain black coffee but without the bitterness, switching to the naturally-sweeter cold brew is the answer!

Nitro Coffee

nitro cold brew coffee

This is a type of iced coffee which is mixed with nitrogen gas. This makes the drink rather bubbly like a soda. In addition, this brew is also sweeter than regular iced coffee and there’s a foamy texture which is sure to delight a lot of people. Some manufacturers now sell these in cans for convenience.

coffee cherry cascara on hand

This brew of exotic, specialty coffee is now very popular among the health-conscious crowd. Cascara is actually the extracted skin of coffee beans. After removal, they are dried in the sun before being shipped. Coffee made from cascara is very rich in protein, fiber, iron, and antioxidants.

So not only does it provide you with energy, it has the potential to help you fight off a variety of health problems. In addition, it is naturally sweeter than regular coffee, hence it may help to control sugar additions.

However, the caffeine content is lower in cascara than most other brews.

Mushroom Coffee

People are starting to become more concerned about their health and it’s seeping into their coffee habits as well. That’s why mushroom coffee has grown in popularity. Mushrooms, as you may know, provide so many health benefits:

  • They’re a rich source of vitamin D. This means healthier bones amongst other things.
  • They strengthen your immune system. Research has shown that mushrooms increase the production and help promote the maturation of immune cells.
  • They are rich in antioxidants. Everyone knows that antioxidants promote health in a variety of ways by defending our bodies from the detrimental effects of free radicals.
  • They are a rich source of Vitamin B, which provide a boost to your metabolic rate.

These are only a few examples of how mushrooms contribute to our well-being. Hence it is no wonder that this wonderful ingredient has made its way into our coffee as well.

chemex and coffee

While this way of brewing coffee originally made its debut in the 1940s, Chemex is recently becoming very popular among coffee addicts.

Chemex actually refers to the apparatus used to brew the coffee, which is an hourglass-shaped coffee maker made of non-porous borosilicate glass.

There’s also a collar and tie made of wood that acts as a heat-resistant ‘handle’ for the brewer. A special filter paper is used when pouring the coffee, which gives it a flavor that is strong but simultaneously less bitter and acidic.

More Sugar and Cream

Earlier, only the commercial chains seemed to offer things like coffee shakes but now smaller local cafés and breweries are following their example as well.
